Firefighters rescued and treated a pet dog injured in a fire in a slum area in Manila.

Footage shows volunteers gently pouring clean water over the canine's burns in Tondo, the Philippines. Neighbours said the pooch returned to their burning home to find its owners.

The Tondo Fire Brigade officers also located the dog's owners and successfully reunited them after first aid treatment at a local clinic.

Fire volunteer John Andrei Estrada said: 'As part of the fire brigade, we do not only save human lives. Animals are also rescued because they have lives too.

'This dog had evacuated with its family but returned to the burning house to check if its owner was still inside.'

'It suffered third-degree burns from falling debris during active fire suppression. My fellow firefighters helped the dog escape, and volunteer medics provided first aid before it was taken to a veterinarian for further treatment.'

The fire reportedly spread quickly due to the lightweight construction of the houses in Sitio 6 and electrical issues on October 22.
