US: Rangers Sled Injured Hiker Off Icy Ampersand Mountain After Nighttime Fall
United States - November 21, 2025 Ampersand Mountain, New York – On November 21 at 5:10 PM, Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from a hiker at the summit of Ampersand Mountain reporting an unstable ankle injury. Forest Ranger Adams spoke with the subject by phone. The hiker had not been using any traction devices and had fallen on an icy section of the trail. At 6:50 PM, Rangers reached the 54-year-old hiker from Tupper Lake. They splinted the injured ankle, provided pain medication and warm liquids, and applied a hypothermic wrap. Nine Rangers then used a sled to move the patient down the trail to the trailhead. A family member drove the hiker to the hospital. Resources were cleared at 12 AM.
