Flames erupted along green renovation scaffolding wrapped around the towers and rapidly engulfed multiple buildings, sending thick black smoke soaring over the skyline. The inferno has become Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades, with authorities confirming at least 44 deaths (including one firefighter) and about 279 people still missing. Investigators say flammable bamboo scaffolding and construction netting likely helped the blaze spread uncontrollably across seven of the estate’s eight towers. Rescue teams continue to comb through wreckage as emergency shelters house hundreds of displaced residents.
