Storyline: Cultural creative designers fuel Dunhuang's heritage boom [Voice_over] In northwest China's Dunhuang, an important city along the ancient Silk Road trade route, a new generation of cultural and creative designers is reimagining millennia-old heritage for the modern world. People like fine arts graduate Zhao Wenqi, who are driving the city's creative renaissance with everything from immersive educational tours to culturally-inspired merchandise. [Sound_bite] Zhao Wenqi, Cultural and creative designer: "My work mainly involves facilitating educational tours and designing cultural creative products. The most rewarding part is successfully integrating modern design with traditional Dunhuang art forms, like painted sculptures and murals, to create products that resonate with today's youth and children." [Voice_over] Zhao is part of one of the city's "skilled workforce brands", a rapidly growing employment system that helps creators earn money as artists, as well as become the region's living breathing cultural inheritors. Skilled workforce brands help generate jobs and fuel regional growth. [Sound_bite] Zhuang Junting, Deputy director, Dunhuang Employment Guidance and Training Center: "Since the beginning of this year, Dunhuang's 'Cultural and Creative Designer' skilled workforce brand has trained over 20,000 individuals, supplied more than 22,500 workers to the industry. This brand creates over 2,500 local jobs in Dunhuang annually and has successfully incubated 17 cultural enterprises and art studios dedicated to Dunhuang themes, with partnerships established with over 300 brands both within and outside the province." [Voice_over] Data from the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security shows that there are currently more than 2,300 skilled workforce brands nationwide. Going forward, authorities have pledged to step up policy and resource support to expand both the number and impact of these brands. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
