Footage has emerged from the US of a dog protecting a realistic looking doll from the woman who made it.

The video, filmed in San Bernardino County, California on Saturday, shows the dog apparently trying to mother the painted doll.

The filmer later wrote online: "I am a reborn doll artist, my company name is Gemini Reborn Nursery, I paint dolls to look realistic.

"I recently finished painting this doll I laid it down on my bed when I came into the room my dog was laying with her and every time."

"I tried to pick up the doll she would stretch her body to block me," she continued.

"She did not want the baby to leave it was like she was trying to mother her."
