Asahi Says Data Of 1.5 Million Customers Potentially Leaked In Cyber-Attack. The beer maker revealed that September’s ransomware incident — which shut down factory systems and forced staff to take orders by hand may have compromised the personal details of over 1.5 million people who contacted its customer service centres. Asahi says it will delay its full-year financial results to focus on the crisis, while it works to notify customers believed to be affected. The company has not identified the attackers, though ransomware group Qilin, known for targeting major firms, has claimed responsibility. Investigators say an intrusion was detected at a data centre on 29 September but by the time systems were isolated, the attackers had already infiltrated the network, encrypted data and deployed ransomware. So far, only 18 confirmed cases of employee-related data exposure have been verified but customer names, addresses, genders and contact details may also have been accessed. Asahi says it is continuing to assess the scale of the breach as it strengthens its cybersecurity defences.
