China: AI makes movie production faster, cheaper, more creative in China
Storyline: AI makes movie production faster, cheaper, more creative in China [Voice_over] In China's movie industry it's lights, camera, algorithm, as artificial intelligence becomes a driving force in making movie production faster, cheaper and more creative than ever. In the pre-production stage, directors now use generative AI tools to visualize scenes and match characters within a set before shooting begins. This allows ideas to leap instantaneously from a director's imagination into a visual representation. [Sound_bite] Deng Guiyao, Director, audiovisual center, Industrial Culture Development Center, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: "In the early stages of creativity and content generation, AIGC (Generative Artificial Intelligence) can significantly shorten the distance between imagination and visualization. Meanwhile, in post-production, AI serves as an invisible hand that reduces costs and increases efficiency." [Voice_over] In post-production, meanwhile, AI-powered dubbing tools can automatically translate dialogue into different languages, while preserving the original tone and emotion of the characters. This helps Chinese films reach global audiences more easily. [Sound_bite] Ma Ping, head of AI Research Institute, China Film Group: "With the help of AI, both labor and equipment costs have been significantly reduced while the quality of visuals has improved. The technical aspects of filmmaking can now be managed by models, allowing creators to focus more on the creative side." [Voice_over] Data from the China Film Administration shows that the country's box office soared to about 4 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of the year, up about 23 percent year on year.
