Georgian-era windmill in terraced street goes on sale for £695k
An 18th century windmill in a terraced street which was converted into luxury holiday flats has gone on sale for £695,000.
The imposing building in Scarborough, North Yorks., was earmarked for demolition before a stunning interior conversion.
The charming 11-bed property offers prospective buyers a chance to "own one of the town's most iconic historical structures". "
The stunning property is thought to have been constructed as a corn mill in 1784 but windmills have operated from the site for 500 years.
The current windmill changed hands several times and had its six sails removed in 1898 when it was powered by an engine.
It carried on working as a mill until it closed in 1927 before falling into disrepair.
The 60ft high building has been converted into holiday cottages with a bespoke circular kitchen in the base of the former mill.
As well as 11 bedrooms, the property also boasts ten bathrooms and a balcony suite which enjoys 360-degree panoramic views of the seaside town.
The windmill is on the market with Silver Tree estate agents with an asking price of £695,000.
A spokesperson said: "A truly rare opportunity to acquire Scarborough's only surviving windmill - a striking Grade II listed landmark dating back to 1784 and now home to a profitable and highly distinctive hospitality business."
"Steeped in history, the windmill has occupied this site since 1784, with previous mills believed to have stood here for over five centuries." "
The building was marked for demolition in the 1980s but locals rallied to save it before it was transformed into a hotel and restaurant.
