WEST JERUSALEM - NOV. 29: A group of Israeli demonstrators gathered in West Jerusalem on Saturday, protesting against their government's ongoing military operations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire agreement being in place.

The protesters called for an immediate end to Israel's actions, which they labeled as "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing," and demanded the protection of Palestinians' right to live in safety and peace.

They carried banners with slogans such as "Stop the genocide," "Stop the ethnic cleansing," and "We refuse to be war criminals."

The demonstration was organized in response to continued Israeli strikes. The Israeli military intensified its ground, naval, and air attacks on several parts of the Gaza Strip, areas that remain under Israeli control.

This public dissent comes against the backdrop of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, with United States support. The first phase of this agreement came into effect on October 10.

The initial phase of the ceasefire includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The long-term plan also envisages the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a new governing mechanism that excludes Hamas.

According to reports, Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 2023 have resulted in nearly 70,000 fatalities, predominantly women and children, with over 170,000 individuals injured.

Concurrently, the Israeli military has escalated its operations in the West Bank since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. In the occupied territory, more than 1,085 Palestinians have been killed, and over 10,700 injured in attacks by the army and illegal settlers. Additionally, more than 20,500 people have been arrested.
