The process began at 8 a.m. local time at 2,429 polling stations and ended at 8 p.m. Election officials have started counting ballots, while the Central Election Commission (CEC) is expected to announce preliminary results later in the evening.
According to the CEC, by 4 p.m., 1,073,000 voters had cast ballots out of 4,294,243 registered voters.
One political party and 460 independent candidates competed for seats in the Jogorku Kenesh, the national parliament, which dissolved itself on Sept. 25.
Each candidate submitted a non-refundable deposit of 300,000 Kyrgyz som (about $3,430) to the commission. The elections were monitored by 778 international observers from 58 countries.
The vote, originally scheduled for November 2026, was pulled forward after the Central Asian nation's parliament voted to dissolve itself back in September, citing the short period between the country's parliamentary and presidential elections.
