Bride and Groom Crash to Ground as Wedding Stage Collapses in Uttar Pradesh

A wedding reception in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia turned chaotic when a packed stage holding senior BJP leaders suddenly collapsed, sending the bride, groom and over a dozen guests crashing down.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during the reception of BJP leader Abhishek Singh Engineer’s brother at the Ramlila Ground. The couple had just begun receiving blessings when BJP district president Sanjay Mishra, former MP Bharat Singh, Vishram Singh—representing Bansdih MLA Ketaki Singh—former district general secretary Surjit Singh, and several other leaders stepped onto the stage to greet them.
According to Mishra, the plywood platform had been assembled without adequate support and could not bear the weight once everyone gathered around the couple. Within seconds, the structure gave way, dropping 12 to 14 people into a pile of broken boards and decorations.
Mishra said the moment was supposed to be a simple gesture of blessings, but the stage buckled instantly. He noted that it was pure luck that no one suffered serious injuries and the newlyweds escaped unharmed.
