3. VARIOUS OF BULGARIAN NATIONAL BANK BUILDING SOFIA, BULGARIA - DEC. 1, 2025: The Bulgarian National Bank has released the country’s first samples of the euro, the common currency of the European Union.

According to the bank, euro sample coins went on sale starting today, drawing long queues of citizens eager to obtain the first locally issued euros.

The newly minted samples feature symbols representing Bulgaria’s history and cultural heritage.

Authorities announced that starting January 1, ATMs across the country will begin dispensing euros, and both the lev and the euro will remain in circulation for one month.
From February 1 onward, the euro will become the sole legal currency in Bulgaria.
