Trump Confirms Call with Venezuela's Maduro Amid Rising Tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he spoke with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, but provided no details about the conversation. "I don't want to comment on it. The answer is yes," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. The call, first reported by The New York Times, reportedly touched on a possible meeting between the two leaders in the U.S. Trump described the conversation as neutral, saying, "I wouldn't say it went well or badly, it was a phone call.” The revelation comes amid escalating tensions, as Trump has called Venezuela's airspace "closed in its entirety," though he stressed that this should not be interpreted as an imminent strike. U.S. options reportedly include targeting Maduro's alleged role in drug trafficking, with military strikes already conducted in the Caribbean. Human rights groups and some U.S. allies have condemned the strikes, warning they may violate international law. Trump said he would investigate a reported second strike that killed survivors during a September operation, adding he would not have approved it. Maduro and his administration have yet to comment.
