Tourist stumbles upon bizarre church-themed club in Tokyo - with nun on the door
A shocked tourist stumbled across a church-themed nightclub in the middle of Tokyo where guests are checked in - by a woman dressed as a nun.
Jalan Ward, 32, was enjoying the buzzing streets of Shibuya when he did a double-take at the sight of a bar decorated like a place of worship.
He had stumbled upon the popular Dogenzaka Church - also known simply as The Church.
The Church is one of Shibuya's many nightlife venues cleverly disguised as a place of worship, complete with glowing crosses and faux stained-glass windows.
American tourist Jalan filmed the surreal scene and was stunned when he spotted a 'nun' acting as door staff, checking IDs, as partygoers streamed inside.
But despite the steady flow of club-goers treating it like any other night out, Jalan couldn't bring himself to step through the doors.
Jalan, a tourist from North Carolina, USA, said: "I was extremely shocked and flabbergasted at the same time."
"Outside the club was a woman dressed as a nun or priest who checks you in before entering - almost like you're walking into a church."
"I did not go inside as my mind, beliefs and body were telling me not to. "
"Even though I noticed other attendees going in like it was just normal nightlife. "
"I always assumed religion was serious for Japanese people, but this club seemed to say the opposite."
