Kind tour guide piggybacks disabled holidaymaker across sand to reach boat
This is the heartwarming moment a kind tour guide piggybacked a disabled holidaymaker across the sand to reach a boat.
Withawat helped the tourist couple by carrying the man to the motorboat for their day trip to Phi Phi Island in Krabi, southern Thailand.
Footage captured by Nutthapong Dangnam shows the vacationer being hoisted onto the worker's back on the steps on November 25.
The traveller's companion can be seen standing behind him, carrying his belongings, while a beachworker pushes the wheelchair.
Withawat then carefully climbed down the stairs, with two of his colleagues assisting him. The men on the boat took the immobilised tourist towards the longtail wooden boat.
Withawat said: 'We couldn't use the wheelchair because the wheels would just sink and it would be impossible to push it across the sand.
'I helped them so they could transit easily and enjoy their holiday here. It makes me happy to assist our tourists because they support our livelihood, and I was glad to offer this small amount of assistance.'
Standard wheelchair tires are designed to minimise rolling friction on hard surfaces.
Thin wheelchair wheels drive the sand aside because it is a loose, non-sticky material. This continuous displacement creates a small pile in front of the wheel, causing a resistance that completely blocks forward movement.
