Mothers and daughters celebrated a High Court victory for farmers in Kenya.

Female members of the Kenyan Peasants League rejoiced at a landmark ruling that removed provisions which had previously criminalised saving, sharing, selling, or exchanging seeds.

Footage shows the women singing and dancing while leading a march with their banner that said 'My Seeds, My Future' in Machakos County on November 27.

The decision came from Justice Rhoda Rutto, who struck down key sections of the 2012 Seeds and Plant Varieties Act.

The ruling declared unconstitutional the provisions that had criminalised saving, sharing, selling, or exchanging unregistered indigenous seeds.

The provisions previously penalise of up to two years in prison and fines of 1 million Kenyan shillings (6,087 GBP), while also giving officials the authority to raid community seed banks.
