This is the touching moment an officer played the Romanian national anthem on a violin during a flight.

Travellers aboard a TAROM domestic flight were in awe as they listened to a gratifying mid-air performance by a member of the military in Bucharest, Romania.

The flight performance was part of Romania's National Day celebration, in collaboration with the country's national airline, TAROM, a day before Great Union Day.

Footage shows the officer in uniform standing in the aisle while playing for the passengers on November 30.

Visibly moved travellers can be seen beaming as they enjoy the piece, with others filming the musician.

After finishing the anthem, the officer reportedly thanked the passengers for their attention and told them to carry Romania 'with pride at any altitude, on any meridian'.

Romania's National Day is celebrated on December 1. It commemorates the 1918 Great Union, when the provinces of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina officially united with the Romanian Kingdom, forming a single, unified state.

The union was achieved in the aftermath of World War I, largely fulfilling the long-held aspiration of Romanian people to live within one national state.
