A Ferris wheel gondola caught fire during a fireworks show.

The spectacle was intended to illuminate the 223 ft attraction like a lantern, but one cabin suddenly ignited in Pampanga, the Philippines, on November 29.

Footage shows flames rising on the outer side of the gondola as colourful pyrotechnics continued overhead.

A fire truck reached the site after the display and the blaze was contained without spreading to other parts of the ride.

Onlooker Jasper Datu said: 'It happened during the Biggest Lantern of Hope event. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.'

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Jasper said it is believed to have been caused by a stray firework that hit the structure.

He said: 'The fireworks display malfunctioned and caused a fire on the Ferris wheel.'
