Many fishermen are now forced to venture into the sea on makeshift plastic boards, while around 4,500 others were left without a source of income after their boats were destroyed.
Palestinian carpenter Atiyye Mikdad tries to support fishermen by repairing damaged boats using pieces of wood he salvages from the ruins of destroyed houses, combining the reclaimed materials with costly fiberglass.
Mikdad said they receive boats that are 50% damaged and still manage to fix them by assembling pieces from other damaged boats. Showing a boat in his workshop, he said: "We rebuilt it piece by piece — around six different parts were gathered and assembled. It was just leftovers, and we turned it into a functioning small boat."
Gaza’s government media office said the army has violated the ceasefire about 591 times, killing 357 people and injuring 903 others.
Since October 2023, the Israeli army has killed more than 70,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 others in a brutal assault that also left the enclave in ruins.
