UNCAPTIONED: Renault 5 And 4 Among Four EVs Eligible For £3750 Discount
Renault 5 And 4 Among Four EVs Eligible For £3750 Discount. Switching to an electric car just got cheaper, as four new models join the government’s top-tier Electric Car Grant band worth £3750. The latest additions are the Renault 4, the Alpine A290, the Mini Countryman, and the 52kWh version of the Renault 5 — all now qualifying for the highest discount. With the grant applied, the Renault 4 starts from £23,455, the Renault 5 from £23,945, the Countryman from £25,350, and the A290 from £30,245. They join existing Band One EVs such as the Nissan Leaf, Ford Puma Gen-E, Ford E-Tourneo Courier and Citroën ë-C5 Aircross. Another 35 electric cars qualify for the lower £1500 grant, including the entry-level Renault 5, whose smaller battery doesn’t meet the stricter emissions criteria. This expansion follows last week’s Budget, which injected £1.5 billion into the scheme and extended it to 2030 although from 2028, a new pay-per-mile EV tax will also come into force. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander says the grant has already helped more than 40,000 drivers make the switch to electric.
