Stunning videos show one of Britain's biggest Christmas lights displays illuminated for the festive season - featuring more than 2,000 lanterns spread over a mile.

Thousands of visitors have been flocking to Twycross Zoo, in Warwickshire, to see their dazzling Lanterns Of The Wild spectacle since it opened for the first time on November 14.

It has more than 2,000 hand-crafted and painted lanterns in rainforests and ocean habitats depicting thousands of animals and plants - plus the much-loved children's character The Gruffalo.

As well as being the the world's first Gruffalo lanterns experience, the mesmerising display is believed to be one of, if not the, longest Christmas light trails in the UK at over a mile long.

The brand new lantern installations depict ten immersive wild habitats inspired by tropical rainforests, icy tundras, deep oceans and African savannahs.

The zoo says the illuminated wonderland "represents the newest, most spectacular and densely illuminated trail of its kind" and took more than 99,000 hours to create."

It has been brought to life by a team of over 30 Chinese artists using a staggering 25,000 bulbs and 70,000 metres of strip light.

Highlights are said to include a giant Mount Rushmore installation - a 25-metre-long, eight-metre-tall structure which was assembled in six sections.

Jamie Turner, marketing director at Twycross Zoo, said: "The craftsmanship is outstanding, every lantern is a work of art."
