Footage reportedly shows a Russian Solntsepyok TOS system striking Ukrainian positions on the frontline with thermobaric ordnance.

The heavy flamethrower system was seen firing thermobaric rounds at locations in Huliaipole, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine, on December 3.

Russian officials said aerial reconnaissance detected temporary deployment points and fortified positions, with coordinates confirmed and passed to the Solntsepyok crew.

The video shows the system launching thermobaric missiles toward the reported targets.

Thermobaric ordnance is a type of explosive weapon that uses atmospheric oxygen to produce a high-temperature, long-duration blast. Unlike conventional explosives, which contain their own oxidiser, thermobaric weapons disperse a fine fuel aerosol into the air before ignition.

Russian authorities said the strike destroyed the sites and personnel present, allowing assault units of the Vostok grouping to continue what they described as successful advancement.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in what the Kremlin is still calling a 'special military operation'.
