Streeting Orders Review Into Mental Health And ADHD Diagnosis. The review will explore whether there is over-diagnosis of mental health conditions and ADHD, alongside identifying gaps in support services. The government says it’s already investing to expand these services, but long waits for therapy remain a problem in many regions. Streeting, who has previously suggested that conditions are being “overdiagnosed,” emphasized the need for a clinical, evidence-based approach to ensure timely access to accurate diagnoses and effective support. NHS figures show a rise in both mental health issues and ADHD over the past 20 years with 22.6% of adults reporting mental health problems in 2023-24 — a sharp increase from 17.6% in 2007. The review, led by Prof Peter Fonagy, will publish its findings by Summer 2026, with a focus on rigorously testing assumptions and ensuring that reforms are both honest and truly beneficial to those most affected.
