Former Lakers Star and NBA Champion Elden Campbell Dies at 57. Elden Campbell, former Los Angeles Lakers star and NBA champion, has passed away at the age of 57. The cause of Campbell's death remains unknown, with the news revealed by the Los Angeles Times. Campbell played eight seasons with the Lakers during his 15-year NBA career, also playing for Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and New Jersey Nets. The former center won his only NBA championship in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons, defeating the Lakers in the finals. Drafted by the Lakers in the 1990 NBA Draft, Campbell shared the court with legends like Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. After his time with the Lakers, Campbell was traded to the Hornets and played there until 2003. Throughout his 15-year NBA career, Campbell recorded 1,044 games, averaging 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Tributes have poured in from former teammates, with Cedric Ceballos calling Campbell’s death a deep loss.
