Grand Jury Rejects Indictment of Letitia James, Undercutting Trump's Legal Offensive. A federal grand jury in Virginia has declined to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James, just days after a judge threw out the previous case against her. The decision marks another setback for Donald Trump's push to pursue legal action against officials he views as political opponents — including former FBI Director James Comey. Both cases were dismissed last month after a judge ruled that Trump's appointed prosecutor wasn't legally installed. Prosecutors had accused James of lying on mortgage documents for a Norfolk property, but she has repeatedly called the case a political hit job. According to CBS News, the grand jury refused to move forward, an extremely rare outcome in federal cases. James praised the decision, saying the allegations were groundless from the beginning. Her attorney called the refusal to indict a clear rejection of a case that "should never have existed." James previously led the civil fraud case against President Donald Trump, which resulted in a major financial penalty — later reduced on appeal but with Trump's fraud liability upheld. She's not the only Trump critic to face federal charges: former national security adviser John Bolton is currently accused of mishandling national defense information.
