China: Hainan film festival marks anniversary of China-Thailand ties with exchange event
Storyline: A series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand were launched at the Thailand Pavilion at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) in Sanya City on Friday. From open-air cinemas to industry talks, the event demonstrated how film is bridging cultures and fostering new collaborations between the two nations. "It's my first time at the Hainan Island International Film Festival. It's my great pleasure to bring many film companies to join in the festival. We will have a good cooperation between Thailand and China in the future," said Pranisa Thakrajang, director of Creative Cultural Promotion Division at Thailand's Department of Cultural Promotion. "I have worked with Tencent, worked with Chinese filmmakers. They are quick, very precise and very talented. It's an open opportunity for other countries to join, and it's a gateway to meet industry people in China," said Thai film director Chookiat Sakveerakul. The first-ever Thailand Pavilion at the HIIFF is designed as a full showcase of the country's film ecosystem. From the Thailand Film Office to 14 leading production, animation, and location services companies, the pavilion highlights every stage of filmmaking - emphasizing Thailand's readiness for collaboration. "China has a big market, and I come to Hainan because I want investors and partners for shooting in Thailand," said Phasit Wacharatham, chief executive of Thailand-based production company Locman Film.
