This is the dramatic moment street vendors fled as Tropical Depression Wilma battered the Philippines with heavy rain and strong winds.

Footage shows torrents of rain sweeping across the road in North Cotabato on December 3, as locals hurriedly abandoned their stalls and sought shelter in a nearby building.

State weather bureau PAGASA said Wilma had gained some speed while moving westward over the sea near Eastern Visayas on Saturday morning.

The system is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near its centre, with gusts reaching up to 55 kph.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Captain Noemi Guirao Cayabyab said sea travel has been suspended nationwide, leaving more than 4,600 passengers stranded at ports.
