Winter Road Chaos Video Shows Why Drivers Must Slow Down
WAWA, Ontario — The Ontario Provincial Police released video Wednesday showing a near-miss on Highway 17 that underscores the dangers officers face while working in severe winter conditions.
The footage, captured Nov. 26 near Wawa, shows how rapidly a roadside situation can escalate as blowing snow and slick pavement reduce visibility and control. According to OPP, officers were on scene assisting during hazardous weather when a vehicle lost control, narrowly avoiding a collision with emergency personnel.
Police urged drivers to slow down, adjust to winter road conditions and provide extra space for emergency responders.
“Our officers are working in hazardous conditions to ensure safety on our roads,” OPP stated. “This video shows just how quickly things can go wrong.”
The reminder comes as early winter storms move across the region, creating unpredictable and dangerous travel conditions.
