BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Two Brownsville police officers are being praised after a simple act of compassion was captured on body-worn camera and shared widely online.

Early Friday morning, Officers Rubio and Maldonado encountered a homeless man while patrolling the downtown area. With temperatures dropping and the man wearing wet, inadequate clothing, the officers stepped in without hesitation. They purchased new sweatpants to help keep him warm and comfortable.

A passerby recorded part of the interaction, and the video quickly circulated on social media, prompting an outpouring of appreciation from the community.

The Brownsville Police Department said the moment reflects the values their officers bring to every shift. “We are proud of our compassionate officers who serve with dignity, empathy, and respect,” the department noted.
