[Voiceover] As it works to become fully dependent on renewable energy sources, China is using advanced technological innovation to upgrade and expand its industrial chains of traditional energy resources, like coal. In Shaanxi Province, a vital coal production base in northwest China, is a 727-kilometer coal transportation pipeline that can move 10 million tons of coal annually. The project transports coal slurry with high-pressure pump stations that increase pressure along the route. In not using vehicles or rail to move the coal, the approach allows for the most environmentally friendly means of transport. [Soundbite] Xie Yihua, deputy manager, Production and Operation Branch, Shaanxi Shenwei Coal Pipeline Transportation Co. Ltd.: "Currently, the costs are about two-thirds of rail transport and half of road transport, fully leveraging the economic and social benefits of the pipeline. In the next step, we will further research and innovate pipeline technologies and give full play to the pipeline's production capacity advantages, to achieve comprehensive industrial development." [Voiceover] China is still on track to meet its goal of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 because coal only plays a residual role in the country's energy system. Power generated from coal is used to fill the gaps in power generated from renewables - a gap that's increasingly shrinking as the country's clean energy grows exponentially.
