VARIOUS DRONE SHOTS OF TRUCKS IN PARKING AREA AT KAPIKULE BORDER CROSSING EDIRNE, TÜRKİYE - DEC. 04, 2025: Truck drivers leaving Türkiye via the Ipsala Border Crossing were forced to reroute to the Kapikule and Hamzabeyli gates after Greece closed its border gates to heavy vehicles due to ongoing farmers’ protests.

The closure is disrupting the transport of goods to European countries, with drivers rushing to deliver their cargo on time.

Many are now heading to other open border crossings in Edirne to continue their journeys.

Truck traffic at the Ipsala border crossing in northwestern Türkiye came to a halt on Wednesday as Greek farmers also blocked the Kipi crossing in protest, preventing heavy vehicles from entering Greece.

As part of protests held across Greece, farmers have occasionally blocked intercity highways.

On Sunday, the protesting Greek farmers also clashed with police near the central city of Larissa.

Greek farmers plan to escalate their campaign over rising production costs, delayed compensation, and issues with the state agricultural payments agency, OPEKEPE.

In June, the European Commission fined Greece €392.2 million (approximately $453.4 million) over a large-scale agricultural subsidy fraud dating back to 2016.

The fine stemmed from major oversight failures by OPEKEPE, which was dissolved in May after it was discovered that funds had been misused through fictitious pastures and fraudulent agricultural activities.
