China Slams Japan Over Rising Tensions and Radar Clash Near Taiwan. China is firing back at Japan after a tense mid-air confrontation sparked fresh friction in the region. Tokyo says Chinese fighter jets locked their radar onto Japanese aircraft, a move it calls dangerous and unacceptable. But Beijing says Japan is the one provoking the situation by sending planes close to Chinese naval drills near the Miyako Strait. The clash comes just weeks after Japan's prime minister warned that Tokyo could respond if any Chinese action against Taiwan threatens Japan's security. China's foreign minister blasted those comments, saying Japan — given its World War II history — should be far more cautious, not stirring up the Taiwan issue to pressure Beijing. China insists Taiwan is its territory, while Taiwan's government strongly rejects that claim, saying it has never been ruled by the People's Republic of China. Tensions around Taiwan — already high — now have another flashpoint as both sides dig in.
