SANFORD, Fla. — A Sanford police officer is being praised for rescuing and reviving a family dog after a house fire early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Officers and firefighters evacuated all adults and children from the burning home before learning the family’s husky was still inside. Officer Pagan entered the residence, found the dog unresponsive from smoke inhalation and pulled it out of the structure. Officer Diaz helped move the kennel to safety as Pagan began lifesaving efforts.

For nearly 30 minutes, Pagan worked to cool, oxygenate and revive the dog. The husky eventually lifted its head, signaling it would survive, bringing visible relief to the family.

Officials credited the coordinated response of Sanford Police, Sanford Fire Department and Seminole County Fire Department for preventing loss of life and limiting further damage.
