Tourist picks up 'beautiful' octopus that turns out to be deadly blue-ringed creature
This is the terrifying moment a tourist picked up a 'beautiful' octopus that turned out to be a deadly blue-ringed creature.
Randy Bartolay was wandering around a rocky shore and found the deadly cephalopod at Ticao Island in Masbate, the Philippines.
Footage shows the sea creature crawling under the clear water, seemingly trying to escape as the man attempts to grab it on December 8.
He managed to pick it up and throw it back into another puddle.
In another clip, he can be seen showing the octopus on camera before dropping it into the water.
Blue-ringed octopuses are among the most dangerous marine animals in the world. Despite their small size, they carry enough venom to kill multiple humans.
Their bite is often painless but can cause paralysis, respiratory failure, and even death within minutes if untreated. The rings on their body glow a vibrant blue as a warning when they feel threatened.
