This is the shocking moment a car rammed through school gates while pupils gathered for their morning assembly.

CCTV footage shows hundreds of youngsters lined up in the open space of the school compound when a white van crashed through and destroyed the gate in Jakarta, Indonesia, on December 11.

A total of 19 children and one teacher from Kalibaru 01 Elementary School were injured before the vehicle came to a full stop after hitting a tree.

Some of the victims were run over and trapped beneath the vehicle, which had been scheduled to deliver lunch for the pupils.

Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri said: 'There were 20 victims who suffered injuries in the incident. They consisted of 19 students and one teacher.'

The car belonged to a government program which delivers nutritious lunch packages to schoolchildren.

Those hurt were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. One pupil reportedly suffered serious injuries.

The police chief inspector added: 'No one died. We pray that everyone recovers quickly.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, while the driver has been arrested.
