Seven fire engines and 35 firefighters responded to a serious fire at Shugg Furniture in Birmingham, located dangerously close to a petrol station.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus heroically contained the blaze, preventing a potential disaster. Watery Lane Middleway was closed as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Seven fire engines have been deployed to a serious fire at a furniture shop next-door to a petrol station in Birmingham on Thursday 11 December evening.

35 firefighters, 2 fire officers and a fire investigation officer attended the scene where a large plume of smoke rose into the air.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building to bring the blaze under control.

Despite the close proximity with the Gulf Watery Lane petrol station, firefighters prevented the spread, containing it to the one building.

Crews went through a shutter of the Shugg Furniture car park to access the seat of the fire with replacement firefighters on standby to continue dampening down any hotspots.

Watery Lane Middleway was closed both ways by police whilst the incident was ongoing.

West Midlands Fire Service Crews from Highgate, Aston, Hay Mills, Ladywood, Bournbrook and Woodgate Valley attended.
