A Chinese crime boss wanted by Interpol over alleged mass fraud has been arrested at an airport in Thailand.

Huang, 44, was detained at Suvarnabhumi International Airport near Bangkok while trying to leave the country on December 16.

Immigration officers said he was travelling on a fake Mexican passport under the name 'Gol Goo' and was listed by Interpol as a key figure in a transnational scam network. They found a Thai Privilege Visa and his genuine Chinese passport hidden in his luggage.

Police said Huang fled China's Yunnan province in 2020 through a natural border into Myanmar, where he was said to have established a fraud syndicate.

The gang allegedly duped more than 500 Chinese victims out of over 1 billion baht (23,752 GBP) through a fake investment platform.

They posed as a 'single, wealthy businessman', promising investors high returns before disappearing with the money.

Police Colonel Pongthorn Pongratchatanan, deputy commander of Immigration Division 2, said: 'We have charged him with using or possessing a forged passport and have handed him, along with the seized items, to the inquiry officer to proceed with Thai legal procedures.

‘After that, we will cooperate with the Chinese authorities to proceed with the international judicial process.'

Thailand has become a notorious transit point for Chinese fugitives operating cross-border fraud and human trafficking operations in neighbouring Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
