UNCAPTIONED: Labubu Toy Maker Accused Of Worker Exploitation By Labour Group
Labubu Toy Maker Accused Of Worker Exploitation By Labour Group. A labour rights organisation says it has uncovered evidence of worker exploitation at a Chinese factory producing the viral Labubu dolls. The claims come from China Labor Watch, a U.S.-based group that says its investigation found employees working excessive overtime, being asked to sign blank or incomplete contracts, and being denied paid leave at a supplier linked to toy retailer Pop Mart. Labubu dolls, known for being sold in so-called blind boxes, have surged in popularity worldwide, helping fuel Pop Mart’s global expansion. Pop Mart tells the BBC it is now investigating the allegations. The Beijing-based company says it appreciates the findings shared by the labour group and insists it will firmly require suppliers to correct their practices if the claims are proven. The company adds that it already carries out regular supplier audits, including annual independent third-party inspections conducted by internationally recognised reviewers. China Labor Watch says it is calling for stronger enforcement and greater transparency to protect workers involved in producing the popular toys.
