China: Chinese turtle appears to "breathe air" while clinging to full tank wall
Hefei, China - January 07, 2026 On January 8, 2026, in Hefei, located in eastern China’s Anhui Province, a video captured a curious moment in a supermarket seafood area. While other fish swam normally in the tank, a gray-brown softshell turtle had climbed up the glass wall. Its claws gripped the edge while its neck protruded above the waterline, repeatedly spitting small jets of water. The behavior puzzled the filmer until they noticed the tank was filled almost to the brim. Water flowed down the turtle’s neck due to the high level, creating the illusion that it was “breathing air” or blowing water intentionally.
