Breanna's Cochlear Implant Activation at The Center for Hearing and Speech

Breanna has worn hearing aids since she was a baby and was a student at the Melinda Webb School at The Center for Hearing and Speech in Houston, TX. Her hearing has decreased over time to where her left hearing aid was not helping her understand speech.

The cochlear implant she received will help her understand speech better with her left ear.

This is the touching moment her cochlear implant was turned on for the first time at The Center for Hearing and Speech.

Moments later, Breanna and her family began working with her speech therapist (Listening and Spoken Language Specialist) on various listening activities to improve her ability to understand spoken language. Speech therapy is a critical component to a cochlear implant user’s success. Weekly speech therapy can help children with cochlear implants develop speech, language and literacy skills on par with their peers.

CHS plans to also film a follow-up video within the next month to show how Breanna is doing now and tell others what she is now able to hear.
