Annual Salmon Run in Chimacum Creek, Kala Point, Washington

Buy video

Salmon competing to swim upstream to spawn in Chimacum Creek, near Port Townsend, WA. Every year, salmon leave the ocean to swim upstream (miraculously, they each swim back to the very place they were born) to lay/fertilize eggs. This is the end of their life; they've stopped eating at this point. They use up everything they have left, and once the eggs are safe and ready to hatch, the salmon die. Incredible. A lot of restoration has gone on in this creek, allowing salmon populations to increase.
