London, United Kingdom. 5th November 2016. The Million Mask March has taken place in central London, protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square before making their way down Whitehall towards Parliment Square. Protesters were held by police lines at outside the Houses of Parliament before moving on to Buckingham palace where several arrests were made. Protesters again clashed with police back at Trafalgar Square. A large number of fireworks and bottles were thrown at police throughout the evening.

A Metropolitan Police press release confirmed there were a total of 53 people arrested for offences including obstruction, possession of an offensive weapon, public order and drugs.

Commander BJ Harrington of the Met’s Public Order Command said:

“We facilitate hundreds of peaceful protests every year in London usually with the co-operation of the organisers. On this occasion although the organisers did not engage with police, the majority of protesters did adhere to the conditions imposed. Only a small minority chose to breach the conditions and engage in criminality.”
