A raccoon calmly eats cat food at the bottom of the stairs

Woke to a series of crashing sounds. Went to investigate and discovered this raccoon at the bottom of the stairs, eating cat food. He had apparently pushed (or dragged) the container from the kitchen to the top of the stairs and pushed it down. Whether he thought it would fit through the cat door (that's how he got in), or realized that throwing it down the stairs would cause it to burst open, remains a mystery. But raccoons are clever.

The two cats ignored the raccoon, but when I failed to do anything about it, Buster (one of the cats) seemed disappointed in me.

I was tempted to follow the raccoon to get him on video attempting to squeeze his now somewhat larger self through the cat door, but thought better of it. Cornered wild animals aren't fun.

We've since locked the cat door.
