During these riots in Athens, Greece, the police faced a dilemma. The government ordered the police to not engage with the people participating in the riot.

This resulted in a cat and mouse game between the people and the police. The day after these riots the police has send a letter complaining about the fact that they could not do anything while they had to suffer from violence in the form of stones that where trowed by participants and molotov cocktails.

The reason why the government ordered the police not to engage was because Europe ( Brussel ) told Greece to respect the fact that people are demonstrating.

The demonstration that is on the video is every year on the same day and area. Most of the participants are anarchists.

Exarcheia (Greek: Εξάρχεια) is the name of a neighborhood in downtown Athens, Greece close to the historical building of the National Technical University of Athens. The Exarcheia region is famous as a home for Greek anarchists.
