Orcas in Orange County (raw file)

Buy video

50-80 offshore type orcas showed up on 11/30/16 off the coast of Dana Point, Orange County, California where Dana Wharf and Dolphin Safari first spotted them and reported the sighting, I went out of Newport Beach on a whale watching zodiac from Newport Coastal Adventure who picked up the orcas about 2 miles off Newport Beach as they were headed up the coast. We stayed with them for several hours until they were about 18 miles off the coast of Huntington Beach when the sun was setting and it was time to go back. Killer whales are rarely seen around here especially this many (50-80) although the offshore types of orcas are known to travel in large pods, here they were spread out over about 3 miles with sub-groups of about 3-12. It was absolutely amazing to see orcas popping up all around our boat and even farther off in the distance every direction you looked. These type of orcas specialize in eating sharks, manta rays, and fish, they do not eat seals and sea lions or whales like the transient orcas. The boat featured in the video is Newport Coastal Adventure out of Newport Beach, California. For media inquires, contact Mark Girardeau markocoutdoors@gmail.com
