Footage has emerged from northern China of soldiers clearing a road in the wake of a "freezing rain storm."

The video, filmed in Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday, shows the military personnel breaking the ice of the road to make it safe again.

The highway was described in local media as a "skating rink", and the icy storm caused widespread traffic problems.
