Introducing The Slingshot Spider

Buy video

An amazing nature video has emerged online showing a 'slingshot spider' propelling itself at prey.

Nature photographer Jeff Cremer filmed the spider in action at the Tambopata Research Centre in Madre de Dios, Peru.

The arachnid stretches the web backwards then releases it, sending it shooting out towards its prey..

The spiders, also known as 'Naatlo splendida', are native to the Amazon rainforest.

Although this unique behaviour has been documented as far back as 1932, the spiders have remained basically unknown to all but a small group of experts.
