Pensioner injured in Elephant & Castle collision

A3 northbound carriageway at Elephant & Castle was shut to traffic for several hours on Monday afternoon due to a collision opposite the shopping centre, involving a lorry and a pedestrian. The accident outside the Metropolitan Tabernacle left the pedestrian, a man believed to be in his seventies, with "potentially life-changing, but not life-threatening" injuries.
Local road safety campaigners blame the latest tragedy on TfL's "ignorant" new layout at both Elephant and Castle junctions.
