BABY BOY HEARS FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Camdyn was born in Longview, WA where everything had gone as planned. He was born on August 24th a very healthy baby, we were excited to bring another little boy into this world as Cam is the younger brother of our first son Braxtyn. While in the hospital Cam failed his newborn hearing screening, not once but twice. We had no family history that we knew of and was caught off guard. Sometimes there could be fluid build up that can cause one not to pass, told not to worry, and scheduled an appointment in Portland, OR where they offered the tests we needed for Camdyn. My partner was working at the time of the appointment, he also didn't think anything would go wrong, so I had to go alone. I knew something was wrong, just a feeling I had, we spent four hours in the children's hospital testing Camdyn's auditory nerves to see what levels of frequencies and tones he responded to in order to see where his hearing level was at. It was a long appointment with a lot of silence and a cooperating sleeping baby almost the whole time. We were able to reveal that Cam did not have a fluid build up, there was a hearing loss and there is no way to fix it without the use of hearing aids. I was able to get a lot of questions answered but was in a bit of shock that I couldn't think of many questions to ask. Being a diabetic mother and not knowing if maybe my insulin while I was pregnant was to blame, the audiologist had never heard of M.O.D.Y (Maturing Onset Diabetes of the Young) and could not give an answer to that question. Camdyn was diagnosed with bilateral moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss, this type of loss effects a lot of language development and without hearing aids he could quite easily fall behind in development. Not long after we had an appointment with an Audiologist in Vancouver, WA where she explained a few things that we didn't understand as well as pick out Cam's new hearing aids/take an impression of his ear. On, November 11th, 2017 we arrived to that same Audiologist in Vancouver, WA to fit Cam with his new hearing aids! Now very excited to give Camdyn the chance of hearing all the sounds that he was missing out on. We were thrilled to share his video show his smiles and reactions. We watched many similar videos of baby's getting hearing aids which helped us a lot to look forward to that day and we want to get our video out there to help other families going through the same thing!
