I am a powered paragliding instructor. I was going for a routine flight on 01/14/2018 out of Cerritos, near Cabo San Lucas. I saw some whales breaching just off shore so I flew over to take a look. When I got close to the pod, I noticed one whale that looked very pale. When I got closer, I could see that the whale was tangled in a lobster rig. I circled the whale for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do. A fishing boat saw me circling and approached to see the whales. I flew over the boat an yelled down to them that the whale was tangled. The fishermen proceed to cut the whale free from the rigging. they lost the whale a couple of times when it submerged to I would point its location for them. When it would resurface, they would resume cutting. I took approximately 45 minutes to cut the whale free but eventually the fishermen where successful in removing all of the rope and the lobster trap, freeing the whale
